Haval H7 New Zealand Range Revealed: What Australian Buyers Can Infer

GWM has now published a three-variant Haval H7 range and prices for New Zealand, but those figures are not Australian prices or an Australian specification sheet. Its 1 October 2026 New Zealand announcement starts at NZ$49,990 RRP plus on-road costs. Meanwhile, the live GWM Australia H7 page shows four grade names and asks buyers to contact a dealer for pricing. The two official pages answer different market questions.

This is a market-context update to our earlier Australian Haval H7 debut guide, not a claim that the New Zealand launch determines the Australian line-up. We checked the official pages on 3 October 2026. The cover is a generic AI SUV concept, not an H7 photograph; the three graphics are original editorial explainers.

What exactly has GWM announced for New Zealand?

New Zealand H7 variant Drivetrain in the announcement Announced NZ price
Lux Hybrid 2WD NZ$49,990 RRP + on-road costs
Vanta Hybrid AWD NZ$55,990 RRP + on-road costs
Vanta PHEV AWD NZ$61,990 RRP + on-road costs

Those are New Zealand recommended retail prices. They exclude on-road costs and should not be converted into a claimed Australian retail or drive-away price. GWM says the H7 is due at New Zealand dealers in early October. An arrival statement for NZ is not a stock promise from an Australian dealer.

Original editorial chart of the three New Zealand Haval H7 variants and their NZ dollar RRP before on-road costs
New Zealand's announced range has three variants. Every figure shown is an NZ recommended retail price before on-road costs, not an Australian quote.

The NZ release describes hybrid and plug-in hybrid choices across two- and all-wheel drive. It attributes up to 182 kW combined power to the hybrid system, and up to 320 kW and 670 Nm to the flagship Vanta PHEV AWD. It also claims up to 137 km electric driving range and up to 844 km WLTC combined range for the PHEV. These are GWM-published figures, not our independent measurements. Real-world range and performance depend on conditions, and the exact Australian variant specifications need local confirmation.

The announcement says the AWD Vanta variants use GWM's Hi4 system and describes a locking rear differential and up to eight drive modes. A buyer should not infer from that paragraph that the entry-level NZ 2WD grade, every Australian grade, or any unlisted variant has the same equipment. It is better to read the exact local grade specification than extrapolate from a model-wide marketing description.

What does the Australian H7 page currently show?

The Australian page's range section names Lux HEV, Vanta HEV, Lux PHEV and Vanta PHEV. That is four displayed grade names, whereas the NZ announcement lists three variants and explicitly identifies the Lux Hybrid as 2WD. The AU page also says “Contact your Dealer for Pricing.” Its hero copy discusses hybrid and PHEV Hi4 AWD capability, but the page is not a line-by-line confirmation that every Australian grade has the same driveline or every NZ feature.

The difference matters because an Australian reader might see “NZ$49,990” on a social post and mistake it for a local starting price, or assume that New Zealand's three-grade structure is the Australian range. Neither inference follows from these two sources. The AU page is the relevant starting point for local grade names; a dated Australian price and specification sheet or a dealer quote is needed for an actual purchase comparison.

One page gives NZ RRP for three variants; the other displays four Australian-market grade names and a dealer-pricing prompt. They are not interchangeable.

What can Australian buyers reasonably infer?

The two pages do support a narrower conclusion: GWM is positioning the all-new H7 as an electrified, boxy five-seat SUV in both markets, with HEV and PHEV powertrain messaging. The Australian page itself highlights a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera and safety technology, but the buyer still needs to confirm the equipment on the exact grade quoted. GWM also uses “overseas model shown” beneath images in the Australian range section, so images should not be treated as proof of local trim detail.

The NZ launch is also a useful prompt for questions about Australian availability, not an answer to them. Ask a local dealer which H7 variant can actually be ordered or test-driven, its official specification, the price including applicable on-road charges, and the delivery estimate. If you need AWD, towing, a rear differential lock or particular driver-assistance features, ask for the written local specification of that grade. Do not buy based on an NZ press release alone.

A written Australian quote and grade specification are more useful than a converted New Zealand price or a model-wide headline.

Why not convert the NZ prices into Australian dollars?

A currency conversion does not account for local vehicle specification, taxes, duties, distribution choices, on-road charges or dealer pricing. More importantly, the NZ starting grade is identified as 2WD, while the AU page's range list and marketing language are not a directly comparable price schedule. Quoting a converted number would create apparent precision without a verified Australian offer. We will update the comparison when GWM or an Australian dealer provides a specific, current local price for a named grade.

For now, the actionable news is the official NZ three-variant price announcement and the market-specific difference visible on the Australian H7 page. Keep them separate. Our earlier H7 Australia overview covers the model's debut; this update focuses on what the 1 October NZ pricing announcement does—and does not—establish for Australia.

Frequently asked questions

Is NZ$49,990 the Australian Haval H7 starting price?

No. It is the announced New Zealand RRP for the Lux 2WD Hybrid, excluding on-road costs. The Australian model page directs buyers to a dealer for pricing.

Does Australia have the same three H7 variants as New Zealand?

The live AU page currently displays four grade names—Lux HEV, Vanta HEV, Lux PHEV and Vanta PHEV—rather than the three variants in the NZ release. Confirm actual local availability and specification with GWM Australia or a dealer.

Is the 137 km EV-range figure guaranteed for every H7?

No. It is a GWM claim for the PHEV and not a guarantee for every grade or real-world trip. Driving conditions and exact local specification matter.

When can an Australian customer take delivery?

The NZ release states early October for New Zealand dealers. It does not establish a specific Australian delivery date; request current local stock and timing directly.
