GWM Australia's current Cannon Alpha model page advertises a new 3.0-litre diesel Lux from $58,990 and Vanta from $63,990 driveaway for private buyers in Victoria, plus a choice of a $2,000 driveaway cash bonus or a $2,000 fuel card. The page says the offer applies to eligible new vehicles purchased before 31 October 2026. However, GWM's 17 August launch announcement says the introductory offer runs until 30 October. The two official dates do not match. Before ordering, ask the dealer for the applicable deadline and final driveaway price in writing.
Sources checked 14 October 2026. This is a dated buyer-news update, not a dealer quote or independent road test. The cover is a generic AI ute concept, not a GWM press image; the three additional diagrams are original editorial explainers. Prices and incentives can change or be withdrawn.
What is new about the 3.0-litre Cannon Alpha?
GWM's launch announcement identifies a 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel making a manufacturer-stated 170 kW and 620 Nm, with peak torque across 1,400–2,400 rpm. It is paired with a nine-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. GWM quotes 7.3 L/100 km combined for the Cannon Alpha and a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity. The release also describes front, centre and rear differential locks, Australian calibration work and a 14.6-inch Coffee OS screen. Those are manufacturer's product claims, not our test results or a promise that every grade has identical equipment.
The 3.0-litre version sits alongside other Cannon Alpha powertrains rather than replacing every diesel or the Hi4-T plug-in hybrid. That matters when reading a configurator: the less expensive Ultra displayed elsewhere in the range is a 2.4-litre diesel, not the 3.0-litre Lux. Likewise, a PHEV headline or accessory fitment does not automatically transfer to the diesel grades. Compare the exact vehicle and grade shown on a written quote.

Is the $2,000 cash bonus added to the advertised price?
Do not assume so. GWM's page displays the driveaway-from amounts and separately advertises either a $2,000 driveaway cash bonus or a $2,000 fuel card. Its small print says the cash amount is deducted from the advertised driveaway price, is not redeemable for cash, and is subject to an eligible order and delivery by 31 October while stocks last. The fuel card is provided at vehicle delivery and is subject to availability. The choices are alternatives, not a $4,000 combined entitlement, and GWM says they are not normally available with another offer.
Because the page labels the price as driveaway and says the bonus is deducted from the advertised price, a shopper should not subtract another $2,000 from $58,990 or $63,990 without a line-by-line dealer quote. Ask the salesperson to show the vehicle's base price, on-road charges, cash-bonus treatment or fuel-card value, paint and accessory charges, and the actual amount payable. Prices shown are for a Victoria private buyer; other states, buyer types and configurations can differ. The GWM configurator lists the diesel grades but also contains older generic September wording in its small print, another reason to rely on a current written offer rather than mixing page fragments.

Why do the two official closing dates differ?
The dated August announcement lists the introductory bonus or fuel-card choice as ending 30 October 2026. The current model page and its detailed conditions say 31 October 2026. The later page may reflect updated terms, but that is an inference, not a confirmation from GWM about how all orders will be treated. It would be unsafe to promise a buyer that the offer is available on 31 October solely because one page says so. Ask the dealer or GWM to identify the controlling promotion terms, order and delivery cut-offs, stock conditions and whether the selected Lux or Vanta is eligible. If timing matters, obtain confirmation before the earlier advertised date.
Does 3,500 kg towing mean I can tow a 3.5-tonne caravan with a loaded ute?
Not automatically. The 3,500 kg figure is the manufacturer's maximum braked-trailer headline. The usable setup also depends on the actual vehicle's GVM, GCM, payload, towball download, axle limits and approved tow equipment, together with the trailer's loaded mass. Passengers, fuel, tools, a canopy, tub rack and other accessories consume the vehicle's allowance. The public announcement does not replace the grade-specific owner documentation and towbar specifications.
Request the exact 3.0-litre grade's current towing and mass sheet, then weigh or calculate the expected loaded ute and trailer. Do not infer that a product listed for a GWM Cannon or Poer will fit a Cannon Alpha diesel. For example, our Cannon tub-gantry guide shows why tray dimensions, mounting points and load limits must be matched to the precise vehicle, not the family name. Confirm accessory fitment by Australian VIN before ordering a touring build.

The buyer takeaway
The Cannon Alpha 3.0 diesel gives Australian buyers a published 170 kW/620 Nm powertrain and 3.5-tonne braked-towing headline, with Lux and Vanta prices on GWM's current site. The immediate news value in October is the time-limited cash-or-fuel-card decision and the two conflicting official expiry dates. Get a current dealer quote specifying grade, delivery timing, exact incentive, final amount payable and applicable terms. Then verify the mass limits and accessory compatibility of your actual vehicle. Neither a torque figure nor a promotion banner settles those questions.
Frequently asked questions
Is the $2,000 cash bonus available as cash paid to me?
GWM's current small print says it is deducted from the advertised driveaway price and is not redeemable for cash. Ask for a written price breakdown so it is not counted twice.
Can I get both the cash bonus and the fuel card?
The offer presents them as either/or. Do not assume they can be combined or stacked with another promotion.
Is the 3.0-litre Lux the same as the 2.4-litre Ultra?
No. GWM lists separate 2.4-litre Ultra and 3.0-litre Lux/Vanta diesel variants. Match the engine and grade on the dealer quote and vehicle paperwork.
Is the deadline 30 or 31 October?
GWM's August announcement says 30 October 2026, while its current Cannon Alpha page says 31 October 2026. Obtain written clarification for your order before relying on either date.
